Are we the last bookshop in the UK specialising in books by and about women?
ReadingLasses is in Wigtown, Scotland's National Book Town, a beautiful, rural area in southwest Scotland. We are surrounded by beautiful gardens, the sea, the darkest skies in Europe, ancient stone circles, ancient pilgrimage way and villages and a lot more.
Our range of books is intended to be of interest to everyone - from those simply wanting a good read to those with specialised interests. We have around 20000 books, with a large collection of women's publishing. We sell through AbeBooks, Amazon and Alibris at the moment but we plan to make our books available through this website by the end of Summer 2010.
We are also always interested in buying books that are by, for or about women and all the topics of interest to them. (That will be most everything then!). If you are looking for a particular book we can seek it out for you with our book-runners.
Our café is really special. It is an award winning wee place where the food is REAL, and as much fairly traded, organic and local as possible. Our Bistro Bonne Femme is open on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the summer, serving 'slow' food that is delicious and top quality. There is always vegetarian, vegan and gluten free food available.
We plan to open self-catering accommodation above the bookshop as soon as we get the permissions. We will also develop our events space that is fully booked during the Wigtown Book Festival. http://www.wigtownbookfestival.com
